Mod Budget Make a Gift Corporate Matching Gifts In Kind Donations Funraising Events Mod Supporters
Skiing is a very expensive sport and there is little funding available for athletes, even at the elite level. The goal of the MOD Project is to create and sustain one of the leading cross-country ski teams in the country and to assist athletes in their quest to achieve international success.
To gain the support needed for MOD athletes to train and race full-time, the financial goal for 2009-10 is to raise enough money to support the three MOD Project athletes, about $45,000.
Supporting MOD is investing in the future of Nordic skiing in the Methow Valley. Any support will make a difference.
For more information about giving opportunities, please contact Head Coach and Program Director, Scott Johnston with questions: 509.996.8080 or at methowolympicdevelopment@gmail.com.
The MOD Project was established as part of the Methow Ski Educational Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. All donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by the law.
Cross Country skiing is a very expensive sport with little funding available for athletes, even at the elite level. For the 2009-10 season, the financial goal of the MOD Project is to raise about $45,000, enough money to support the three (3) founding MOD team athletes. To help defray personal expenses, all three athletes are employed part-time.

Athletes train daily in the Methow Valley and travel to several training camps. Daily training includes speed, endurance and strength workouts and average between 4-5 hours a day. Summer and fall training includes roller skiing, running, and strength workouts to prepare for a six month racing season.
To compete successfully at the national and international level, the athletes maintain a full race schedule throughout the fall and winter. This schedule includes national events such as Super Tours and National Championships as well as racing overseas in World Championships and Europa Cup competitions. Costs for national race trips average $1,500 and international races average $3,000 per week per athlete.
Training and competing requires specific equipment from skis to wax to specialized strength machines. Until skiers are selected as members of the US Ski Team, sponsorships are limited and skiers must rely on financial and in-kind donations to help offset the costs of expensive equipment.
MOD coaching and professional support are currently being donated but in the future will include costs for daily coaching services and travel expenses. Sports science costs includes things like testing for Vo2 max and lactate threshold during workouts and video analysis for technique and efficiency development.
Most of the funding for MOD comes from charitable contributions made by individuals, corporations and foundations in the area. 100% of the donations go toward the MOD athletes in their quest for international success. All coaching and additional professional support is being donated.
Here are a few examples of how contributions to MOD can make a difference:
$25 will help purchase fuel to get to and from races.
$50 helps provide the entry cost to a national race.
$100 provides lactate threshold testing supplies for summer training.
$250 sponsors one athlete attending a 4-day training camp.
$500 sponsors one athlete attending a 7-day training camp.
$1,000 supports the travel, entries and lodging for one athlete to participate in a SuperTour event.
Ask your employer if they will match your gift, increasing your contribution to MOD and our ski program.
Matching gifts are an easy way to boost your contribution. Many companies have a matching gift program to support employee interests and demonstrate their commitment to the community.
Ask your human resources or personnel department for a matching gift form to enclose with your contribution. Fill out your part, and we will complete the form to match your gift to MOD. The following organizations have matching gift programs.
